Ok people if you've been hiding under a rock you might no know that registrations are open for Shafted LAN 33! So head on over to the AusGamers registration section to get yourself sign up.

If you have any ideas for comps/silly stuff/etc to run during this event post about it under this thread!

Obviously there is going to be a battlefield 2 dedicated server up and running (hopefully the correct version and none of the Desert Combat problems we've always had :) I'm sick of hosting the server). What I'd like to see (If it doesn't effect pings much on a lan server) is having all the games recorded. If there's no serious effect on the pings then PLEASE have this turned on!

And does anyone know if the dedicated servers will record our stats? I'd like to know which guy at shafted I killed the most :D (and the guy who killed me the most so I know which car to wait at when he leaves :P )

I think that the main competition this time should be battlefield 2 as it has been such a huge success all over australia. Also you can make the maps small for only 16 players so 6v6 teams would work quite well and there should be enough people at the lan to want to participate. The only reason i am posting this is that cs 1.6 is an old game which i and many others at the last lan were not intrested in playing. Anyway altleast give it a thought Also i think maybe cs source should be more widely playe. But thats only my 2 cents so i look forward to coming and gaming like hell. Intercept.

I was just looking at some other lanning events and stumbled across maybe another good idea for the battlefield comp. Montster lan has a competition where the best player of battlefield for a certain number of games wins the prize and so on and so on. Maybe this would be a good other comp with not as much cash but still enough to get people intrested.

and i will be running the demo recorder ect, however this is not supported on the 64 player maps, thus we shall be running a 32 player server... unless you guys want me to change this

32 player will be fine. If we fill up too much we can either host another server or increase the numbers. But with yours and a shafted server or 2 we should have plenty of slots :D

i would also love to get a stunt server going...

so that would be mad fun, but that can wait till later... just stick to pure pwnage at the start ay :)

i think small team competition in bf2 would be awesome, if there is any chance of prizes im sure a few of my clan mates will show up to play too. can we get some notice for the comps and if there are going to be prizes etc in the next couple of days cause some of my friends are only interested in prizes lol.

please no cs, that game has had more than enough comps and stuff, give this awesome, newer and better game a chance.

im sure there will be one or 2... however if not i will gladly run one, however i cannot provide prizes (other then my usual can of spam!) unless we want to all chip in or something... but im sure shafted has something planed!

There will be admin run BF 2 servers up, i'll be playing with the box on wednesday to see how it copes running 1 or 2 servers or more.

Also will be playing with the BFHQ stuff to see if a lan server will count towards online stats also for all those who just want stats or like me who like their unlocked guns.

i'd be up for that can of spam comp. i was close last time lol

One thing I'd like to see, is a better way to display games in progress. I don't know which LAN said they did it, but they said they had something that allowed people to list what games they were hosting on the projector for all to see. I'm not talking about a forum where it shows all the old games or using MIRC to try and organise a game with whoever happens to be looking at that channel at the time… but some kind of (relatively) up to date list of currently or soon to be available servers would be great.

you need to pay for bf2 ranked servers, which sucks, but its life...

we should be able to run the servers with global unlocks available, ie unlock guns ect...

we (vendetta) have been playing around with the server for a while, got the remote admin all sorted so that should make life easy

hey gwakkle is it easy to put on that battlerecorder thing? i still havent had a chance to play with that properly. it seems like a fun thing

yeh.. my server will be running it 100% of the time...

unless people talk me into making it a 64 player server in which case it will not as bf2 does not support the battlerecorder for 64 players maps,

i will try and make the recording available somehow... but im not exactly sure how yet...

since i will be at shafted tomorrow night to help set up, im sure i can chat with the admins and we can figure something out...

Would love it if you were running a server there. We'll be running our own. Not sure what specs but I've bumped some of our servers to a gig to help with the load. We also have a dual xeon 2.8 with 1GB RAM that's being configured specifically for our Battlefield 2 server. We might want yours, though. If it's dedicated, we've got a server area where we can plug your machine in to save space as this event will be jam packed.

There are a few things about comps etc:
* There WILL be a Battlefield 2 comp. Unsure on format since the game is so new. Suggestions please.
* Stunts server? Yep. Would love to - any guidelines for these with BF2? Again, I only bought BF2 yesterday (been on holiday).
* CS 1.6. By popular demand. If the people who said they wanted to play 1.6 actually show up, then we'll do something. Can't promise prizes as our priority WILL be for BF2.
* HL2 deathmatch. I now own HL2 (and so can you for $45 at EB right now - bargain!) and would LOVE to play some HL2DM. There WILL be a server and I'd love to throw s*** at you with the anti grav gun. That thing is cool. Again, no promises with prizes here.
* There'll be some CS source us vs. yous.
* There will be a big tub of chupa chups.
* I should also mention that I am drinking a lovely glass of white wine. This has nothing to do with the event whatsoever but I just wanted to say that.

we can run the stunts server... ours already has been configured, as Vendetta is in the process of making our own video, and we have EGGY!, a freaky man who knows like all the commands so we can do whatever to the server...

myself and egghead will be there around 7pm tomorrow, so we can chat more then

for the BF2 comp... i would suggest something like 6 v 6, on 16 player maps, this was the format at extreme and i think it worked quite well

This will no doubt be too late...BUT EA released a patch yesterday for battlefield 2. So hopefully the dedicated servers will be up to date (either that, or I'll have to reinstall :( )

I'll try for help at the lan too. But will there be anyone there that will have an external hard drive case which I can plug into a USB port while in windows? I'll need it for just a minute while I see if my crashed drive is truely dead
